Why Peonies?

At Simerly Farms, our peony fields are rooted in both family legacy and a deep commitment to American-grown flowers.

Peonies have long held a special place in our family, some of the plants growing around the farmhouse today belonged to Sarah, and cuttings from my great granny’s garden found their way into my own wedding florals. That personal connection made peonies a natural choice when Taylor and I began planning our flower farm.

But this decision was about more than sentiment. Flower farming is one of the fastest-growing areas in American agriculture, and for good reason - nearly 80% of cut flowers sold and used in the United States are imported. At Simerly Farms, we're proud to be part of a growing movement of small farms working hard to shift that, one stem at a time. Peonies are hardy, reliable, and perfectly suited to the Appalachian climate. That said, they are a crop that demands patience, so from the very beginning, we knew we were playing the long game. We believe the best things are worth waiting for, and we think you'll agree once you're standing in the middle of our field drenched in red, pink, coral, and cream blooms.
